 "UNSUNK FUNK" art gallery in Bunbury Unsunk Funk is on Parkfield Street Bunbury, opposite the Library. Genevieve - "Unsunk Funk is an art gallery to view young and old emerging artists, rising from the depths of mediocrity. "I believe the art climate of today is about to explode, thanks to opportunistic investment. The stock market is unbelievable and the land/property market has reached a level of hmmm, you know the story of the snake biting its tail and eating itself? Besides I believe land should be FREE and then maybe we could all be nomadic! Crazy thought! But then what would we want paintings for?... "Art has always existed; it's what separates us from the animals and it will always exist. Art has been a major way for us to study history. Even ancient cave paintings gave away big clues as to what, where and when early humans were doing. "Art is totally like a mirror of society - these days not always a pretty picture. Just depending on where the artist sits in this great playing field of life. What I would like to see happen is for art to be promoted in that way. Individual artists, true to themselves, genuinely producing art. "To buy affordable art from an emerging artist is like lotto everyone does it, or should be. The more tickets one purchases the closer to the jackpot. Jackpot, being an artist who is recognized in the community and has been striving with a time and line of work spanning ten years or more. In return the consumer obtains original art. Art pieces which are talking pieces, beauty for the beholder, investments. Art, if chosen wisely, Australian art, is obviously Australian made and so is a way of keeping the economy circulating on our shores instead of Chinas'". UNSUNK FUNK is a gallery situated opposite Bunburys' new city library on Parkfield Street (the building with the sea-theme mural). UNSUNK FUNK is run by eclectic artist extraordinaire Genevieve, 2009 winner of the South West Survey. Not fussy with big names, UNSUNK (risen) FUNK displays art from unexhibited, unconfident artists, studio sheds and lounge rooms for one and all to share the joy. Anybody who has walked into the gallery is usually joyfully impressed to find a down-to-Earth, culturally rich and diverse element to this South West city. The bohemian gallery stocks individually designed vintage clothes by "SEWN BY GENEVIEVE", "SILVER ROCKABILLY" jewellery by "LUCKY KAT", organic and bright art by Guy Sullivan, pop art by Deanna Mosca (a BRAG Award winner), intimate photos of lichen and orchids by David, to-die-for nudes by Richie, Allana and her "4 SEASONS", Todd and his resin and wax pictures. There is political stuff and social commentary pieces plus the occasional landscape on driftwood and other found objects by Genevieve.
