Concert "Les Castrats à Versailles" , réalisé par Louise Narboni . Enregistré le 16 juin 2009 dans la Galerie des Glaces du Château de Versailles. G. Giacomelli ( 1692- 1740), aria of Epitide " Sposa non mi conosci" from the Opera "La Merope", libretto by A. Zeno (1711) for Francesco Gasparini. First performed during the Carnival season 1734 in Venice, Teatro San Giovanni Grisostomo. It was the fifth and last season of Carlo Broschi ( Farinelli) on stage in Venice - he sang there even the leading ( Il Primo Uomo ) roles in " Merope" by Giacomelli, "Berenice" by Araya and "Artaserse" by Hasse. In " La Merope" was also his first meeting on stage with Gaetano Majorano ( Caffarelli) , who sang the role of Trasimede and was also an pupil of N. Porpora ( Carlo finished his study in 1720, Gaetano- in 1726) . The audience was already very curious about the rivalry of the both, but Farinelli´s incredible gentle and friendly kind to treat his colleague ( also such a famous brawler as Caffarelli was ) prevented all possible scandal incidents. Another aria - "Quell ´usignolo che innamorato" (Atto II) from "La Merope" - has become very famous and was sung by Farinelli for the King Philip V of Spain . ************************* *************
