"As Is Now" finds Paul Weller plugging in and turning up the volume louder than he has in years. As the voice of punk legends The Jam, Weller influenced virtually every U.K. band that followed. The Jam's popularity is legendary; they once reached #21 on the U.K. charts without even releasing the single in that country (it was driven there based solely on imports from Germany). One listen to "From the Floorboards Up," the first single off "As Is Now," makes it clear this album is a departure from his recent acoustic-oriented releases.
