Kundiman: Anak Dalita sung by Arrigo Pola This is a vintage recording of Dr. Francisco Santiago's 1916 Kundiman "Cancion Filipina" (Anak Dalita) as interpreted by Arrigo Pola in 1956. ABOUT ARRIGO POLA Arrigo Pola (b.1908) born in Modena, Italy, Pola is one of the most acclaimed tenors in the world. A distinguished music teacher, he was voice teacher of Luciano Pavarotti starting in 1954. In 1956, Pola toured Asia for singing engagements. He arrived in the Philippines that same year and became instantly popular with the Filipino audience. In a short period of time in the Philippines, Pola mastered tagalog Kundiman songs to the delight of the Filipinos. Some of his recorded kundiman songs are : Pakiusap, Ang Dating Sumpaan, Kundiman 1800, Anak Dalita, and Magbalik ka Hirang, all of which are beautifully sung. Hearing those kundiman songs rendered by an Italian tenor is a marvelous experience. Pola has full strong masculine tenor voice reminiscent of the vocal quality of Mario Lanza. His popularity in the Philippines became widespread and he was several times invited to many important musical engagements including singing engagements in the Malacanang Palace, with no less than President Magsaysay as audience. Pola also became an actor in Philippine movies, although it is unsure if any of his movies survived. He also appeared in many commercials especially San Miguel Beer. Pola was still active as voice teacher to many aspiring tenors well into the 1990s. SOURCE: WIKIPILIPINAS
