 gregoire moulin contre l'humanité As whimsically skewed and inventive as it may start out - like a masculine version of Amélie complete with narration, cartoonish imagery and a socially inept protagonist - Gregoire Moulin (known as Grégoire Moulin Contre L'Humanité - literally 'Gregoire Mouline versus humanity' or '... against the world') soon dispenses with sweetness for an altogether darker take on the French capital. De Penguern's Paris is all dull jobs, foreboding streets, characterless suburbs, football hooligans, psychotic taxi drivers and libidinous predators. Grégoire's Pythonesque evening of catastrophe becomes increasingly grotesque and wickedly funny. In one story strand our hapless hero is pursued by a man desperate to have sex with him and, by turns, involves anal rape and a Hitler costume; in another, a suicidal woman steals cars as a furious cabbie takes pot-shots from his taxi while his drooling Alsatian drives.
