French tenor José Luccioni was Cyrano in both versions. Cyrano: Roberto Alagna. Roxane: Nathalie Manfrino. Le Bret: Richard Rittelmann. Ragueneau: Marc Barrard. Choeurs de l'Opéra National de Montpellier (chorus master: Christophe Talmont). Orchestre National de Montpellier, conducted by Marco Guidarini (July 2003). Staging: David and Frédérico Alagna. A film by George Blume. I made the subtitles myself, from the text of Edmond Rostand's play, and from the very good English translation of the play by Gladys Thomas and Mary F. Guillemard. I, of course, applied the same cuts and slight modifications decided by Henri Cain for the opera, and consequently I had to do the same with the translation. I also sometimes modified the English text to make it fit the French one better, but most of the time I left it as it was, because it renders rather well Rostand's poetical language, even though it's not always true to the letter. Many thanks to Eser (civileso on YouTube) for her advices about those choices. I cut the last chord. Sorry about that, but I didn't want to cut Roxane's first musical sentence in this video, and I had to respect YouTube's 10-minute limit. I could have made two videos, but I think it's more effective if it's only one. M.D.
